A day to remember

When I was at school in Atlanta I always went to The King Center in the week leading up to Martin Luther King Jr. Day. It's a wonderful museum and is near to Dr. King's birth home and the Ebenezer Baptist Church. Sitting in the pews at the church, listening to recordings of Dr. King's speeches was something that resonated with me.

My parents had told me about what it was like to be at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. on Aug. 28, 1963, standing among thousands upon thousands of people. That speech, the famous "I Have A Dream" speech, was a catalyst for the 1964 Civil Rights Act and remains one of the greatest orations in history. Dr. King won the Nobel Prize a year after delivering it.

Here's the text of the speech. It's worth a read.
